How do people feel about lasik surgery?
- I had it done 3 years ago and regret not doing more research on it. The people who were teaching me about it were dressed like doctors, but they were obviously paid to be sells people. Being nieve I took their word for it. After the surgery I was having problems with dry eyes, eye pains, migraines, and strabismus. When I confronted them about it everything did not add up so I started doing my own research online and talked to two local optomatrist. What I found out is that Lasik surgery has only been arround for a few years and nobody knows what the long term affects are. Also no matter who does the surgery and what technology they use, you will always end up with scar tissue on the muscles arround the eye, which can cause problems. Also the fact they try to minimize so you do not think its a big deal is that every person is taking a risk of losing their eye sight and / or life. Everybody there kept telling me that I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. Later I found out that your not a candidate if your younger than 25 because thats when your eye sight will have stabilized. I was 20 when they told me that I was the perfect candidate. And take into consideration I paid over $5k to get it done at the most experienced lasiks surgeon in the world, with the latest technology. - Check out this website that does therapeutic contacts that you wear at night to shape your eye to give clear bision during the day as an alternative to Lasik, it may give you some more info about the pros and cons. I found it helpful, and I actually decided to go with ortho - k which has been successful, it cost around $1850 AUS for the first year then $700 for the following years new lenses and solutions. opticaldiscountcentre.com. au / Ortho - K.html
- Because of eye damage from a stick I started to wear gl es before 4th grade. In my mid - forties I got both eyes corrected by laser eye surgery. I had Lasek in one eye and Lasik in the other. Two different procedures because of the damage to one eye from the stick 30 years earlier. I have gone 6 years now without gl es. I still read newspaper print, drive and get around without gl es. Because of my age, I will probably need reading gl es within a couple of years. I may check into another eye surgery instead. It's been very liberating to not have to wear, keep track of, take care of and buy new gl es every other year. It's been wonderful to be able to go without pushing my gl es back up onto my perspiring nose in the summer or remove them in the winter due to fog when entering a warm building. Not to mention the remarkable improvement in my appearance, my life without gl es has seemed like something just short of a miracle. I would recommend eye surgery to everyone. Drawbacks? Hmm. There is a slight "halo" effect at night sometimes. It's like a glow surrounding lights. But it's minimal. I used to see it through fogged up gl es. It's not severe and I would not let it discourage you
