Is it possible to have laser eye correction surgery on the NHS? If so, how do i go about applying for it?
- They do not offer this on the NHS - it is cl ed as a cosmetic proceedure. They will only do it if you demonstrate a medical reason for you not being able to wear gl es or contact lenses, and even then you're placed on a very long waiting list, and there is a risk you will not get it at all as the NHS tends to spend most of its money on more critical illnesses. You will be able to get them done privately for around £350 per eye and be in and out quite quickly. Remember that nearly all laser eye surgeries do not recommend the proceedure until you are around 30 years old because your eyes are still growing until then
- I have to agree with the first answerer, the NHS is already an overstretched system struggling to pay for critical services. read this news article from yerterday: uk. news. yahoo.com / afp / 20080807 / tuk - britain - cancer - drugs - a7ad41d.html I know it's annoying to have to wear gl es or contacts I wear both and hate them, but all we can do is save up for a while and then have it done, as it is after all a cosmetic procedure
- No they would not do that, its considered cosmetic
- Nope, it is considered a cosmetic procedure
- If its purely for cosmetic reasons then you would have to put a case forward that your appearance with gl es is harming you psychologically but thats a long shot
- no and you need to get it done privately and would cost atleast £300 for one eye
- No, the NHS is short of money and things like cancer, kidney ops, etc take priority
- You would have to get a referral from your GP nhsdirect. nhs. uk / articles / article. aspx?articleId=891
